Stake account

A stake account is a separate account on Solana that holds the SOL you stake. Your wallet creates it when you delegate, and your wallet keeps control of it. The validator never receives your coins: the stake account only points your SOL's voting weight at the validator you chose.

Why it matters to you

The stake account is why native staking doesn't mean handing your SOL to anyone. It is controlled by two keys. The stake authority can delegate, unstake, split or merge it. The withdraw authority can move SOL out, which makes it the one to guard. When you stake from your own wallet, both belong to you.

If your staked SOL ever seemed to move to a different address, this is why. The stake account has its own address, but your wallet still controls it, and no validator can withdraw from it.

Every stake account also holds a small reserve of SOL on top of your stake. Solana requires it for any account to stay open, so it isn't a fee paid to the validator.

Where you see it on this site

You manage stake accounts in your wallet, not on this site. Our Telegram alerts need only your wallet's public address to find your stake and report its rewards every epoch (about 1–2 days); they never ask for keys or a seed phrase and can't move anything.

Questions

Yes. Each time you stake, your wallet usually creates a new stake account, and you can split one into two or merge two compatible ones. Every account keeps its own small reserve, so many small stake accounts tie up a little more SOL than one larger one.
