Vote account

A vote account is the account a Solana validator uses to cast its votes on blocks. When you stake, you delegate to this account, not to the validator's main identity key. Its address is the surest way to identify a validator: names can look alike, but every vote account address is unique.

Why it matters to you

For you, the vote account is about picking the right validator. Wallets usually show validator names, and names can look alike. No two validators share a vote account address. If your wallet shows the vote account before you sign, compare its first and last few characters with the one on the validator's page here. It takes ten seconds and rules out a look-alike.

The vote account also collects the validator's own commission income, which the operator withdraws with a separate key. It's where the validator gets paid, not where your stake goes.

Where you see it on this site

Every validator page on this site is built around its vote account: it's part of the page address and shown near the top with a copy button. Our Telegram alerts use it too, so they follow the exact validator you picked.

Questions

No. Your SOL stays in your own stake account, which your wallet controls. The stake account only records which vote account it is delegated to. What the validator gets is your stake's voting weight and its commission on your rewards, never the SOL itself.
